Gulistan blast death toll rises to 20 as another dies at hospital

Gulistan explosion death toll has risen to 20 as another injured has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.

Hafez Musa Haider, 42, succumbed to his injuries at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at about 11:00pm on Wednesday. Resident physician of the emergency department of the institute Dr SM Ayub Hossain confirmed about the death.

Dr Ayub Hossain said the patient died while he was undergoing treatment at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the institute. Some 98 per cent of his body was burnt in the explosion.

Hafez Musa’s father-in-law Baset Ali said his son-in-law hailed from village Baluakandi under Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj district. His father was MB Zaman. He has a pharmacy and a restaurant in his area. He came to Siddique Bazar in Dhaka along with his cousin Abu Zafar Siddique Tareque to buy bathroom equipment. His cousin Abu Zafar Siddique Tareque, 34, died in the explosion on Tuesday.

Baset Ali further said, “My son-in-law told our mobile phone number to a rescue team member after arrival at the hospital. Receiving the phone call, we have arrived at the hospital.”

Musa Haider married Tamima Akter one year ago. He was the third among his three brothers and three sisters.
