Housewife ‘commits suicide’ in Habiganj

A housewife allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Baniachong upazil in Habiganj district on Wednesday evening.

The incident took place at Tophkhana village of the upazila at around 5 pm.

The deceased was identified as Asma Akhtar, 22, wife of Anu Miah, a resident of the village.

Quoting family members, police said the housewife took poison following family dispute and became seriously ill. Relatives of the housewife immediately brought her in Habiganj District Modern Hospital, where on duty doctor declared her dead.

Habiganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Gulam Mortuza said being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Habiganj District Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
