The first namaj-e-janaza for Ganashasthya Kendra founder and trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury was held at Suhrawardy Udyan at 2:40pm on Thursday.
Dhaka University Central Mosque’s Khatib Syed Emdad Uddin conducted the janaza. Ganashasthya Kendra officials, employees and others took part in it.
Before the janaza, Dr Zafrullah’s son Barish Chowdhury said, “My father always thought about the country. He worked for the country. He was a very patriotic man. I seek blesssings of all of you for him.”
Earlier this morning, Dr Zafrullah body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar in the capital where people from all strata including politicians, doctors, journalists, and intellectuals paid their last respect. There the body was kept till 1pm.
He was given a guard of honour around 12:30pm.
Another janaza for the valiant freedom fighter was held at 4pm in Dhanmondi’s Ganashasthya Kendra, while last one will be held 10am on Friday at Savar Ganashasthya Kendra.
The family decided to bury him at Ganashasthya Kendra premises in Savar.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury breathed his last at about 11.15pm on Tuesday (April 11) while undergoing treatment at Ganashasthaya Nagar Hospital, Dhanmondi in the capital at the age of 81. He had been suffering from kidney complications for a long time.
