Bhutan King to visit Kurigram on March 28

The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will visit the special economic zone (SEZ) at Madhabram area under Bhogdanga union of Kurigram Sadar upazila on Thursday (March 28).

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman and Senior Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun confirmed the information in an exchange meeting with journalists.

The meeting was organized by Kurigram Press Club, seeking for everyone’s cooperation to build the economic zone which was held at Shamsul Haque Auditorium in the district on Thursday (March 21) afternoon.

The meeting was held, among others, by BEZA General Manager (Finance Budget) Sheikh Jubaid Hossain, Kurigram Municipal Mayor Kajiul Islam, Kurigram Press Club President Raju Mostafiz and journalists of various print and electronic media.

Executive Chairman and Senior Secretary Sheikh Yusuf Harun said that the process to establish Special Economic Zone in Kurigram district is being underway to fulfill the promise given by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The district administration has already handed over 133 acres of land to Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA). Arrangements for acquisition of another 86 acres of land are in progress as a total of 211 acres of land will be required to establish the zone, he said.

“A delegation of Bhutan already have visited the spot on March 10. If everything goes well, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will visit the zone on March 28. It will open a new milestone in the economic and commercial relations between the two countries,” he added.
