The death toll from the fire incident in Savar’s Hemayetpur after oil-tanker lorry turned turtle on the road, rose to four as one more burn victim died early Wednesday.
The deceased was Sakib Hossain, 15, helper of a watermelon-laden truck which was burnt in the fire.
He succumbed to his injuries at about 1:20am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Tarikul Islam, resident physician of the hospital said Sakib was admitted to the hospital with 100 per cent burns and his condition was critical from the beginning.
According to the victim’s family, Sakib started his work as helper two months ago. He hailed from Barguna district.
Around 5:35am on Tuesday, the driver of a oil-laden lorry lost control over the steering and turned turtle on a road in Jorepul area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. Later, the vehicle caught fire. The fire then spread to four trucks and a private car and burnt to ashes which were behind the lorry.
Iqbal Hossain, helper of one of the trucks died on the spot. Later trader Nazrul Islam succumbed to his injuries on way to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
One of the truck driver Helal Hawlader died arouan 9:30pm on Tuesday.
