Sheikh Selim’s Banani residence set on fire

A fire was set at the residence of Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Selim in Dhaka’s Banani around 1:30 am on Friday.

However, due to the absence of police protection, the Fire Service was delayed and could not reach the site until 2:45 am.

Unruly crowds set fire to the residence of Awami League Presidium Member Sheikh Selim in Banani. Due to security concerns, Fire Service vehicles were delayed and could not access the site immediately, according to a duty officer from the Fire Service control room.

Earlier, on Wednesday night, students and other protesters vandalized and set fire to the residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi-32, using a bulldozer to reduce much of the building to rubble. Similar acts of vandalism and arson were reported at the homes and offices of other Awami League leaders nationwide.

In a midnight statement on Thursday (6 February), the interim government warned that any attempt to destabilize the country through vandalism and arson would face swift and strict law enforcement action.

The government assured citizens that it was ready to protect their lives and property, vowing to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.
