Bangladesh re-elected to UPU Council

Bangladesh has been re-elected to the Council of Administration (CA) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for another four-year term at the organisation’s 28th Congress in Dubai on Thursday.

Bangladesh received 97 of 157 votes, ranking 9th among the 10 elected members, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Chief Adviser, and the Bangladesh Embassy in Dubai played key roles in the successful campaign.

Officials said the re-election would enhance Bangladesh’s contribution to global postal modernization, e-commerce, and digital services, while further bolstering its international profile.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus congratulated the delegation on the achievement. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the UAE Tareq Ahmed hailed the outcome as a “diplomatic success.”

In a related move, 50 easy bikes have been distributed to postal field workers with UPU support under the guidance of Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the release added.
