Dr Yunus hands over diplomatic passport

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the recently departed Chief Adviser of the interim government, has handed over his diplomatic (red) passport.

He returned the passport during his tenure, about a week before leaving office while he was still in power.

In addition to the Chief Adviser, several advisers and individuals holding adviser-level rank have already returned their diplomatic passports.

However, a few advisers have yet to do so, including Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.

Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that around 20 individuals, including advisers and those with adviser-level status, have returned their diplomatic passports. The Chief Adviser surrendered his passport about a week ago, and others handed theirs over before the election.

Following the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, an interim government led by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was formed. After governing the country for about one and a half years, his administration transferred power to an elected government through a peaceful election held on 12 February.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a landslide victory in the 13th National Parliament election and formed a new government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formed a new cabinet consisting of 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers.
