Mahfuzur Rahman, Editor of the United News of Bangladesh (UNB), has been appointed as the official speechwriter for the Prime Minister under a contractual arrangement at the highest tier of the government salary structure.
The Ministry of Public Administration formalized the appointment through an official gazette notification issued on Monday, bearing the signature of Deputy Secretary Md Golam Rabbani.
According to the notification, Rahman’s tenure will extend throughout the Prime Minister’s time in office, though the position remains subject to satisfactory performance. The appointment becomes effective immediately upon his assumption of duties.
As a condition of the role, Rahman must sever all existing affiliations with other institutions and organizations to assume the position. This requirement ensures undivided commitment to his responsibilities in crafting official communications for the head of government.
The gazette indicated that specific terms governing the appointment, including detailed conditions of service, will be outlined in a formal contract agreement between the parties.
Officials noted the appointment was made in the public interest, with the ministry directing immediate implementation of the order.
The speechwriter position at Grade 1 of the national pay scale represents a senior government role, reflecting the significance attached to official prime ministerial communications. The appointee will be responsible for preparing addresses, statements and other verbal communications delivered by the Prime Minister at domestic and international forums.
