To tackle the alarming outbreak of measles in the country, the scope of the special Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign has been expanded.
Starting on, the program has begun simultaneously in Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Mymensingh City, and Barishal City.
Dr Mohammad Shahriar Sajjad, deputy director of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), said that a target has been set to vaccinate a total of 1,219,957 children aged between 6 months and 5 years across these four metropolitan areas.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a special vaccination campaign has been underway in different parts of the country since April 5 to prevent the spread of measles. In the first phase, activities are being conducted in 30 upazilas across 18 districts, with priority given to areas with higher infection rates.
Under this program, all children aged between 6 months and 59 months will receive the MR vaccine.
Vaccination will be carried out daily (except weekly holidays) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at designated centers. The program has been brought forward from its previously announced schedule, and it will be rolled out nationwide starting April 20.
