President Mohammed Shahabuddin returned to the country on Monday morning after completing follow-up treatment and medical examinations in London.
The President arrived in Dhaka in the morning, his Press Secretary Sarwar Alam confirmed.
During a routine health check-up in the United Kingdom, doctors detected a significant blockage in the President’s heart, leading to an immediate angioplasty and stent implantation procedure.
The procedure was carried out on Tuesday afternoon at Royal Papworth Hospital.
Quoting the President’s personal physician, Colonel Dr AKM Faizul Haque, who accompanied him to the UK, Sarwar Alam said the President underwent an angiogram under the supervision of interventional cardiologist Dr Stephen Holley at the hospital.
In October 2023, President Shahabuddin underwent open-heart surgery at the National University Hospital.
Since then, he has been receiving follow-up treatment for heart-related complications at Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
Royal Papworth Hospital is internationally recognised for its advanced cardiac treatment and research and is regarded as one of the institutions associated with the world’s first successful heart transplant procedures.
The President left Dhaka for London on 9 May for medical examinations.
