Zilhajj moon sighted, Eid-ul-Adha on May 28

The holy Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated across Bangladesh on Thursday (May 28), as the crescent moon for the month of Zilhajj was sighted in the country’s sky on Monday evening.

The National Moon Sighting Committee officially confirmed the sighting following a meeting at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room in the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad announced the decision, stating that the month of Zilhajj will begin on Tuesday.

With the sighting of the moon, the countdown to the second largest religious festival for Muslims begins.

Devotees across the country are expected to start their preparations for the sacrificial rites following the announcement.

The government is also expected to finalize the holiday schedule and security arrangements for the festive period shortly.
