Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman has called upon BNP members of parliament representing reserved women’s seats to equip themselves for a proactive and influential role in the Jatiya Sangsad.
The Prime Minister made the call during a meeting with the party’s women members of parliament at the Cabinet Division in Dhaka on Monday, according to his press wing.
He advised the lawmakers to gain a thorough understanding of the parliament’s Rules of Procedure so they can perform confidently and competently in legislative debates.
Stressing the need for discipline in the House, he asked them to speak with caution and responsibility during parliamentary sessions.
Tarique also instructed the MPs to remain alert against any attempts to mislead citizens through the misinterpretation of religion, while encouraging them to maintain close ties with constituents and strengthen grassroots outreach.
Reflecting on the country’s recent political history, the Prime Minister said that for 17 years people had faced what he described as mental repression and restrictions on free expression.
He added that since the BNP returned to power, democratic rights have been restored and citizens are now able to speak freely.
All 36 BNP women MPs attended the meeting, with 17 taking part in the discussion. They shared their perspectives on parliamentary procedures, the current political environment and progress in implementing the government’s election pledges.
Following the meeting, MP Arifa Sultana Ruma said the Prime Minister had announced plans to provide training on parliamentary rules ahead of the next session of the Jatiya Sangsad.
She added that he had encouraged them to strengthen connections with people in their constituencies and promote party policies at the grassroots level.
BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Political and Agriculture Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were also present.
