The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has intensified security measures across the country, particularly at cattle markets, to maintain law and order ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
Continuing its efforts from previous years, the elite force has adopted especial security arrangements this year to ensure a safe and peaceful environment centering Eid cattle markets.
As part of these measures, RAB Director General Additional IGP, Md Ahsan Habib Palash visited the Gabtoli cattle market in the capital on Sunday and reviewed the overall security arrangements there.
The RAB chief said that in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, it has already set up checkpoints in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, and established control rooms at cattle markets.
“The force is carrying out several nationwide security activities, including robust patrols in areas under the jurisdiction of all RAB battalions to ensure the safe transportation of sacrificial animals to markets,” he said.
Check posts have also been set up in important and vulnerable locations to strengthen security.
Considering the increased risk of robbery and snatching targeting cattle traders carrying cash during the Eid period, RAB has increased the number of patrol teams and security posts in major urban areas.
To reduce public suffering at cattle markets, especial monitoring is being conducted through control rooms and watchtowers.
Buyers and sellers are also being encouraged to use cashless transactions and card payments instead of carrying large amounts of cash.
RAB said necessary equipment has been kept ready to detect counterfeit currency, while drives against fake currency producers and traders are continuing.
The force has also taken measures to ensure that cattle-carrying vehicles are not forcibly diverted to any specific market.
In addition, strict monitoring is underway to identify and take legal action against those spreading rumours or misleading information on social media centering Eid and sacrificial animal markets.
The RAB chief expressed the hope that like previous years, people across the country will be able to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha peacefully and joyfully and sought cooperation from all to maintain overall law and order during the festival season.
