Dutch envoy seeks to extend tech support for Bangladesh agriculture

Mahdi Amin, adviser to the Prime Minister , held a courtesy meeting and bilateral discussion with a high-level delegation led by Dutch Ambassador Joris van Bommel on Tuesday.

Other members of the Dutch delegation included Dominique Kuhling, Amber Oortman, Cor Stouten, and Lubain Chowdhury Masum.

The meeting featured detailed discussions on expanding the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, increasing trade and investment, enhancing cooperation in education and employment, and strengthening people-to-people contacts.

Both sides exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation, particularly in agriculture, the maritime sector, the textile industry, water management, and agro-processing. The Dutch delegation expressed interest in sharing the Netherlands’ advanced technology and expertise to support the development of Bangladesh’s agricultural sector. Particular emphasis was placed on exploring joint initiatives in agro-processing, food preservation, value addition in agriculture, and the development of agro-based industries.

The Dutch delegation commended Bangladesh’s progress in the education sector, women’s empowerment, and women’s participation in political activities. They also highly praised the active participation and achievements of women in grassroots-level Gold Cup football tournaments.

The meeting also focused on water management, river governance, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development. The Dutch side expressed its interest in working more closely with the Government of Bangladesh by leveraging the Netherlands’ extensive experience in these areas.
