Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal gave full credit to the Bangladeshi cricketers, team management, and selectors for securing a historic nine-wicket Test victory over Australia on Sunday (August 16).

Tamim spoke with the players immediately following the match and was present when Prime Minister Tarique Rahman congratulated the team via a video call.

Speaking to reporters later, Tamim praised the squad for achieving the landmark victory on Australian soil, saying, “After 23 years, the way Bangladesh went there and played cricket to win, 1,000% of the credit goes to them. The players, team management, and selectors – all deserve credit.”

Tamim, who never played a Test match in Australia during his international career, noted that the BCB’s role was to support the players with proper facilities and guidance.

When asked whether the squad would receive a financial bonus for the historic win, Tamim declined to reveal details, stating, “Let the bonus matter remain between us (the players and the board). We will discuss it with the players.”

Bangladesh currently occupies the fourth position in the World Test Championship standings, with four home Tests and two away Tests remaining in the current cycle.

Tamim expressed optimism that reaching the WTC final is possible, though he cautioned against looking too far ahead.

“The way they are playing, anything is possible,” he concluded.
