Alexander Isak scored twice in the opening nine minutes as Liverpool beat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Friday (September 4), for their first Premier League win of the season.

The victory was also Liverpool’s first under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for a reported £125 million last summer, put the hosts ahead early. He then doubled the lead within nine minutes.

The performance was important for Isak after a difficult first season at Liverpool. He struggled with fitness and injuries and scored only four goals in 22 appearances last season.

This time, the Swedish striker showed his pace, pressing and finishing abilities as Liverpool controlled the match.

Cody Gakpo also impressed well and combined with Isak in attack. New signing Bradley Barcola, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million, made his debut and showed his pace during his 26 minutes on the pitch.

The win gives Iraola a positive start as Liverpool begin a new chapter under the Spanish coach.
