RSGT sets new port productivity record with 58 moves per hour

RSGT Bangladesh has achieved a landmark milestone in vessel productivity, recording up to 58 moves and handling 82 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) containers per hour while handling MV WANEN, a CMA CGM vessel, at Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) of Chattogram port.

The achievement represents almost double the historical productivity level at Chattogram Port, traditionally averaging around 30 moves/48 TEUs per hour, said a press release of the RSTG, the country’s first foreign terminal operator engaged at the PCT.

The milestone follows the successful commissioning and deployment of RSGT Bangladesh’s advanced Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, marking the terminal’s first gearless vessel operation using the new equipment.

The record demonstrates the impact of modern equipment, international terminal expertise, advanced operating practices, and a highly skilled workforce.

The significantly higher productivity is expected to deliver shorter vessel port stays, improved berth utilisation, and lower vessel-related costs, while enhancing efficiency across Bangladesh’s maritime supply chain, read the press release.

RSGT Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Erwin Haaze said, “Reaching 58 moves/82 TEUs per hour is more than a productivity achievement. It demonstrates the potential of modern port operations in Bangladesh.”

“This milestone reflects what can be achieved through world-class technology, international experience, disciplined operations, and a dedicated workforce. We remain committed to continuously raising operational standards and delivering safe, efficient, and reliable services to our customers and stakeholders,” he added.

Notably, the RSGT handled a total of 78 vessels and 154,564 TEU containers in 2025. The volumes stood to 93 vessels and 236,470 TEUs till August this year.

The deal with RSGT, an international venture of Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) that operates the largest terminal facility in Saudi Arabia, for operating the PCT was inked in December 2023.

The government appointed the operator for a 22-year term under a government-to-government framework and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
