ICT to deliver verdict on Quader, 6 others, on Tuesday

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 will deliver its verdict on Tuesday (September 15) in a crimes against humanity case against top Awami League and affiliate wing leaders, including Obaidul Quader.

Three-member judicial panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury of ICT-2, fixed Tuesday for the judgement on Monday (September 14). The other panel members are Judge Md Monjurul Basid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.

Alongside former Minister Obaidul Quader, the six other absconding accused are AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Saddam Hussain, and Wali Asif Inan.

The tribunal kept the case on verdict standby on August 17 after arguments concluded. A total of 29 prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer, testified during the trial that ended on August 2.

Tribunal-2 framed charges against the seven accused on January 22 this year. Prosecution charges state that the leaders issued coordinated directives, gave provocative speeches, and planned violent crackdowns during the July-August movement, resulting in widespread killings across the country.
