Local government election process is set to begin in mid-November, with the Election Commission (EC) planning to kick off voting through Union Parishad elections.
Senior Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud disclosed this while speaking to journalists at his office at the Election Commission in the capital’s Agargaon on Monday.
He said the commission aims to formally launch the local government election process from around mid-November as part of the government’s announced electoral roadmap.
The Union Parishad elections will be held first, with voting to be conducted in several phases across the country, Masud added.
The EC’s decision marks the first step toward restarting the broader local government electoral process.
