London: The Bangladesh Caterers Association (BCA) hosted its prestigious ‘Chef of the Year Cook-off 2026’ last Tuesday at Hammersmith & Fulham College in West London, bringing together talented British-Bangladeshi chefs from across the United Kingdom.
A total of 55 finalists, selected from hundreds of applicants nationwide, took part in the competition. Among the finalists were 11 female chefs, highlighting the growing participation of women in the UK’s Bangladeshi culinary sector.
This year’s competition was held under the theme “Honouring Today’s Achievements, Inspiring Tomorrow’s Success.” The event aimed not only to showcase the skills, creativity and professionalism of chefs, but also to encourage a new generation to consider careers in the culinary and hospitality industries.
BCA President Oli Khan MBE said the Chef of the Year Cook-off was much more than a culinary competition.
“The Chef of the Year Cook-off is not merely a competition but a vital platform for the future generation of the culinary arts.”
He particularly welcomed the strong participation of female chefs, describing their involvement as an important part of the continuing development of the profession.
BCA Awards Convener Atiq Rahman said the standard of the competition continues to improve each year. He noted that the selection process had been particularly challenging because of the large number of applications received from chefs across the UK.
The Head of the Hospitality Department at Hammersmith & Fulham College also welcomed the BCA chefs to the college. He said events of this nature make an important contribution to nurturing culinary talent and helping participants develop their professional skills.
The competition provided the finalists with an opportunity to demonstrate their culinary expertise, creativity and ability to perform under competitive conditions. The organisers said the event also reflects the important contribution made by British-Bangladeshi chefs to the UK’s hospitality and restaurant industry.
With its focus on recognising current achievements while inspiring future talent, the Chef of the Year Cook-off 2026 highlighted the continuing development of the culinary profession within the British-Bangladeshi community and the wider UK hospitality sector.
