SYLHET, October 3, 2026 — The book Alote Andhar Dhake (Darkness Veiled in Light) by journalist, essayist and poet Saidur Rahman ‘Said’ was unveiled at the Basiya Prokashani auditorium on Station Road, Sylhet.
In the absence of the ailing author, the launch became an emotional gathering, with writers, journalists and admirers recalling his life, literary work and contribution to society.

Chief guest poet and Liberation War researcher A. K. Sheram said the event was unique because it focused more on the author than the book. He praised Said’s writing for portraying egalitarian values and giving voice to oppressed and disadvantaged people, adding that his works inspire courage and encourage social change.
Alote Andhar Dhake is the first book published by the Aflatun Nessa-Pir Boksh Trust, which plans to publish one book every year to promote and preserve creative talent.
The event was jointly organized by Basiya Publications and the Aflatun Nessa-Pir Boksh Trust. Md. Shoab Ali, chairman of the Trust, presided over the ceremony.
Poets, writers, journalists, academics and cultural figures attended the programme, including lyricist Haripada Chanda, poet Pulin Roy, Principal Niaz Uddin, Professor Jannat Ara Khan Panna, poet and politician Dewan Matiur Rahman Khan, poet Sumon Banik and others.
Veteran journalist and researcher Matiar Chowdhury, chairperson of the Trust’s Manuscript Scrutiny Committee, joined the event online from England. Babul Ahmed, public relations officer of Basiya Prokashani and a noted playwright and author, delivered the welcome address.
Several other writers and journalists also spoke, paying tribute to Saidur Rahman Said and highlighting his literary contribution and commitment to social justice.
