Man’s wrist severed over land dispute in Sylhet

One of the wrists of a 35-year-old man was severed allegedly by his cousins in Sylhet’s Companiganj upazila on Monday over land dispute.

The victim was identified as Helal Ahmed, a residet of East Kathalbari village of the upazila.

According to the locals, there was a long dispute over a piece of land between the sons of Jashim Uddin and his brother Abdul Hashem Mia.

On Monday afternoon, a clash broke out between the supporters of the two brothers that left 13 people injured.

Of them, Islam Uddin, 25, Sagor Mia, 24, Ahammad ali, 35 and Ariful Islam, 26 suffered serious injuries.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control,  Sukanta Chakraborty, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj police station said.

Police detained Khurshed Mia, 55 and Tara Mia, 40, two sons of Abdul Hashem for quizzing, said the OC adding that no written complaint has yet to be received over the attack.
