US Ambassador-in-Charge (Chargé d’Affaires) Tracy Ann Jacobson met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Mondy afternoon to discuss Bangladesh’s preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
The meeting began around 2:00 PM at the Election Commission headquarters at Agargaon in Dhaka.
Ambassador Jacobson was accompanied by James Stewart, Political Officer at the US Embassy, and Firoz Ahmed, Political Expert. They were welcomed at the entrance by EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, who led the delegation to the CEC’s office.
Discussions during the meeting reportedly focused on the Election Commission’s readiness and overall preparations for conducting free, fair, and credible elections. This marks the first formal interaction between the current Election Commission and the US Embassy since the political unrest on August 5, 2024.
Tight security measures were in place at the Election Commission premises in anticipation of the visit.
The meeting was initially scheduled for last Thursday but had to be postponed due to a student blockade at the Agargaon intersection near the Election Building.
