Haaland hits hat-trick as Norway crush Israel by 5-0

Erling Haaland scored a stunning hat-trick to reach 51 international goals as Norway cruised to a 5-0 victory over Israel in a politically charged World Cup qualifier in Oslo on Saturday.

The match took place under heightened security due to widespread protests over Israel’s participation amid Gaza conflict.

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators rallied outside Ullevaal Stadium, while large flags and banners in support of Palestine were seen in the stands.

Boos rang out during Israel’s national anthem, and the game was briefly paused due to a pitch invader.

Despite missing a retaken penalty early on, Haaland struck once before halftime and twice in the second half to hit the 50-goal milestone in just 46 international appearances.

Israel’s woes deepened with two first-half own goals from Anan Khalaili and Idan Nachmias, while Alexander Sørloth provided an assist and added pace to Norway’s dominant attack.

With six wins from six in Group I, Norway sit firmly on top with a +26 goal difference, edging closer to their first World Cup appearance since 1998.

They now face Estonia and second-placed Italy in their final qualifiers.

“We played a solid match today,” said Antonio Nusa. “There’s still work to do, but we’re enjoying this moment.”
