The number of SIM cards registered under an individual’s name will be reduced ahead of the national election, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday.
While speaking at a meeting of the 15th Advisory Committee, he said, “One person often commits a crime using another person’s SIM card. As a result, the real culprit remains out of reach. After an incident, investigations frequently reveal that the SIM card used does not belong to the offender. To prevent such misuse, the number of SIM cards registered under one individual will be reduced.”
The Home Adviser shared the information while speaking at a meeting of the 15th Advisory Committee on Law and Order, held at the Secretariat.
“We are working to ensure that no one can register more than seven SIM cards under a single national identity (NID) card before the national polls,” he added.
