Paris Saint-Germain returned to winning ways after two Ligue 1 draws, defeating Brest 3-0 on Saturday to move back to the top of the table. The reigning French and European champions reclaimed first place after Marseille fell 2-1 at Lens in the late game.
Marseille had taken the lead through Mason Greenwood in the 17th minute, continuing his strong form after scoring four goals in last week’s 6-2 win over Le Havre. However, their advantage was overturned when Odsonne Edouard converted a penalty following a foul by Benjamin Pavard, who then put through his own net eight minutes after the break. The result dropped Marseille to third, two points behind PSG, while Lens climbed to second.
At the Stade Francis-Le Ble, Achraf Hakimi struck twice to lead PSG to their sixth win of the season. The Moroccan opened the scoring in the 29th minute after a clever chipped pass from Vitinha, then doubled the lead ten minutes later with a powerful shot following a neat exchange with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele made his return from injury midway through the second half, replacing Hakimi for his first Ligue 1 appearance since late September. Brest squandered a chance to pull one back when Romain Del Castillo missed a penalty in the 59th minute, and Desire Doue sealed the win for PSG with a stoppage-time goal.
“I’m very happy with the result — it’s always difficult to win at Brest,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique after the match.
Elsewhere, new Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli earned his first victory since replacing Adi Hutter, as Mohammed Salisu’s third-minute header secured a 1-0 win over Toulouse. The 38-year-old Belgian, who guided Union Saint-Gilloise to the Belgian title last season, celebrated his first success at the third attempt after two draws against Angers in Ligue 1 and Tottenham in the Champions League.
“I’m proud of this first win,” said Pocognoli. “It’s been a challenging ten days for me and the squad, but this result caps a great start together.”
Hutter had been dismissed two weeks earlier following a poor run of just one win in five matches.
