Major Sadik’s wife Jafrin shown arrest in fresh case

Sumaiya Jafrin, wife of Major Sadikul Haque, has been shown arrested in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Gulshan Police Station.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Jonayed ordered that Sumaiya Jafrin be shown arrested on Wednesday.

Sumaiya’s husband, Major Sadikul Haque, is accused of providing training to activists of banned Awami League faction.

A court-martial has already been formed against him by the military.

Police confirmed the development.

SI Moktar Hossain of Gulshan Police Station told the court that Sumaiya was brought from jail to face the new charges.

Inspector Mozammel Haque Mamun of DB Police’s Gulshan zonal team applied for her arrest in this case.

According to the case details, on the morning of April 22 this year, around 30–35 members of a banned organization protested near Jobbar Tower in Gulshan-1 under banners of banned Awami League faction and Chhatra League.

The demonstrators allegedly chanted slogans against the country’s sovereignty and public safety, aiming to create disorder.

Police arrested several participants at the scene, while some managed to flee.

A case was filed with Gulshan Police Station the same day.

The police application stated that investigations revealed Sumaiya acted as a financier, adviser and coordinator for the protest participants.

She actively participated in anti-state propaganda and is a member of a banned organization.

Preliminary investigations indicate that she provided financial support to members involved in anti-government activities across Dhaka and was working to organize Awami League and banned Chhatra League members nationwide to destabilize law and order.

The authorities emphasized her arrest was necessary to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.

State Additional Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon argued for her arrest and the court granted the request.

Earlier, Sumaiya was arrested on August 6 in connection with a separate case with Vatara Police Station regarding guerrilla training of Awami League activists.

She was placed on a five-day remand, during which she gave a confessional statement on August 12 before being sent to jail.
