Mahbub Ali Zaki’s funeral held at Sylhet Stadium

Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki, who died of a heart attack on Saturday, was laid to rest following his funeral prayers at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Zaki fell ill on the field ahead of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Dhaka Capitals and Rajshahi Warriors. He was rushed to hospital, but died on the way. Hospital authorities later confirmed his death after emergency examinations. He was 59.

The janaza was held at the stadium after the conclusion of the match, with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul, players from both teams, officials, journalists, and thousands of spectators joining the emotional prayers.

After completion of hospital formalities, Zaki’s body was brought back to the stadium and later sent to his hometown in Comilla under family supervision for burial.

A respected figure in domestic cricket, Mahbub Ali Zaki played a significant role in coaching and player development over the years. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over the cricketing fraternity.

In a statement, Dhaka Capitals expressed deep sorrow at his untimely passing, prayed for the eternal peace of his soul, and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
