Egypt pledges manpower, sectoral cooperation with Bangladesh

Egypt on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to expanding cooperation with Bangladesh across all sectors, particularly in skilled manpower recruitment, energy, agriculture and cultural exchanges.

The assurance came when Egypt’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy, paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a press release said.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing bilateral relations between the two countries and discussed ways to further broaden cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The state minister expressed appreciation to the government of Egypt for hosting a considerable number of Bangladeshi students and professionals. She particularly thanked Cairo for its recent decision to increase the number of fully funded scholarships for Bangladeshi students from 12 to 24.

The discussions also focused on enhancing trade and investment cooperation, particularly in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, jute and manpower.

Shama underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration in culture and education, while also emphasizing enhanced people-to-people contacts through cultural and sports exchanges, a mutual visa waiver arrangement, and regular bilateral engagements alongside high-level visits.

Ambassador Fahmy reiterated Egypt’s firm commitment to further strengthening cooperation across all sectors, including recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled manpower, as well as collaboration in energy, agriculture and cultural sectors.

He assured Egypt’s continued support for Bangladesh and expressed strong commitment to further deepening the brotherly relations between the two friendly nations.
