
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday called for reducing delays in project implementation to ensure the country’s overall development through timely and quality completion of works.
He made the call during a meeting with Shailesh Kumar, chief executive officer of Chennai-based multinational water technology company VA Tech Wabag Ltd, at his office at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on the country’s water management, water treatment processes and ways to ensure safe drinking water standards.
The minister said unnecessary delays in implementing development projects hinder the country’s progress. He stressed that, alongside speedy execution, maintaining the quality of projects is equally important.
He also said the use of modern water and wastewater treatment technologies must be expanded to achieve sustainable development.
The minister placed emphasis on taking effective measures to prevent pollution in the country’s rivers.
The meeting also focused particularly on the water quality of the Buriganga River.
Mirza Fakhrul said necessary steps should be taken to free the Buriganga from pollution and restore its former vibrancy.
Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hasan and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the meeting.
