The new list of the world’s top 10 banks, based on total assets and financial strength, has been released showing a clear dominance of Chinese banks.
According to the latest data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, banks from Asia’s economic superpower China have maintained their absolute monopoly, securing the first four positions on the list.
An international survey received here today reveals that Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has retained its position as the world’s largest bank by total assets for the 13th consecutive year.
The bank’s total assets stand at approximately USD 7.65 trillion.
On the list, Agricultural Bank of China ranks second with assets of USD 6.97 trillion, followed by China Construction Bank Corporation in third place with USD 6.52 trillion and Bank of China in fourth with USD 5.48 trillion. In total, five out of the top 10 banks are from China.
Meanwhile, Wall Street giant JPMorgan Chase & Co. of the United States ranks fifth as the largest bank outside China, with total assets amounting to USD 4.43 trillion.
However, despite being fifth in asset size, JPMorgan Chase remains the world’s most valuable bank in terms of market capitalization.
The other top ranked banks and their total assets around the glove are detailed as below:
6. Bank of America, United States – $3.41 Trillion
7. BNP Paribas, France – $3.28 Trillion
8. HSBC Holdings, United Kingdom – $3.21 Trillion
9. Crédit Agricole, France – $3.14 Trillion
10. Postal Savings Bank of China, China – $2.67 Trillion
A significant shift has been observed in the European banking sector. France’s BNP Paribas has emerged as Europe’s largest bank, overtaking the UK’s traditional giant HSBC.
According to economic analysts, Chinese banks continue to expand their total asset sizes, driven by massive domestic savings, heavy government investment in infrastructure, and national bond issuances.
Conversely, US and European banks maintain their strong global influence through high profitability, capital markets, and wealth management services.
