Towhid Hridoy struck a historic unbeaten 242 to guide Bangladesh to a 30-run first-innings lead against West Indies in the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday (November 7).

Hridoy scored 242 off 359 balls as Bangladesh posted 386 in their first innings, surpassing West Indies’ 356. His innings broke Mushfiqur Rahim’s previous record of 219 not out against Zimbabwe in 2018 to become the highest individual Test score by a Bangladeshi batter.

The 24-year-old reached his double century off 304 balls, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to convert his maiden Test century into a double hundred. Playing only his third Test, he also became the fourth Bangladeshi batter to score a double century, joining Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. He was also the first Bangladeshi to score a Test double century against West Indies.

Arriving at the crease when Bangladesh were struggling at 22 for two, Hridoy held the innings together despite regular wickets falling at the other end, producing a remarkable knock under pressure.

West Indies began their second innings on the third day and were 0 for no loss after 0.3 overs, trailing Bangladesh by 30 runs.
