The state has filed an appeal against the acquittals of all accused, including BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and former BNP State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, in the August 21 grenade attack case.
Attorney General’s office confirmed the matter on Wednesday (March 19).
The appeal was submitted to the relevant branch of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.
On December 1, last year, an HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain pronounced the judgement acquitting all accused.
On October 10, 2018, a court in Dhaka sentenced 19 individuals, including former BNP state minister Lutfozzaman Babar, to death over their involvement in the attack.
Another 19 individuals, including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, now in London, were sentenced to life imprisonment, while 11 others were punished in different prison terms.
