UK BNP President Malik and Secretary  Koysor get nomination

Bangla Mirror Desk: UK BNP President M. A. Malik and General Secretary Koysor M Ahmed have received BNP nominations for two seats in Sylhet division in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.

M. A. Malik will contest under the symbol of rice sheaf from Sylhet-3 (South Surma-Fenchuganj-Balaganj) constituency, while Koychar Ahmed will contest from Sunamganj-3 (Jagannathpur-Shantiganj) constituency.

During the 15-year Awami League rule, they have played an active role in the party movement and campaign from the UK. They played an important role in shaping public opinion against the Awami League in the UK and Europe. During Sheikh Hasina’s visits to the UK, BNP also strongly protested under their leadership.

Under the direction of party chief Tarique Rahman, they were regular in organizational activities in the UK, as a result of which these two leaders became his trusted people.

M. A. Malik’s house in Sylhet was attacked and set on fire several times. After the fall of the Awami League government in August last year, he returned to the country and became vocal in his hopes of being nominated. He was active in the area through mass outreach, street meetings, exchange of views and humanitarian aid activities. He also organized a large-scale Milad Mahfil in the presence of top party leaders.

However, the campaign and internal competition intensified as there were several other strong candidates in the Sylhet-3 constituency.

Among the candidates were District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, UK BNP leader Barrister M. A. Salam, and Swechchhasebak Dal convener Abdul Ahad Khan Jamal.

On the other hand, Koysor M Ahmed returned to the country and became active in the Sunamganj-3 constituency. He was the general secretary of Jagannathpur Upazila Chhatra Dal. Returning to the area after a long time, he spread new enthusiasm among the leaders and activists. He was accused in several cases during the Awami League government and went to London and remained active in BNP politics there for a long time.

Other candidates for this seat included UK BNP Vice President M. A. Sattar, M. A. Kahar, Barrister Anwar Hossain and Nader Ahmed.
