Home Adviser pays tribute to Khaleda Zia by signing condolence book

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday evening signed the condolence book at Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) office in Gulshan to pay tribute to the late BNP Chairperson and three-time former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

The condolence book was opened following Khaleda Zia’s death on December 30, 2025, providing an opportunity for political leaders, diplomats, party activists and members of the public to express their sympathies.

Foreign envoys from several countries, including China, Pakistan, India and a number of European nations, have also signed the condolence book at BNP’s Gulshan office since Tuesday evening, reflecting the widespread respect and recognition Khaleda Zia commanded both at home and abroad.

Khaleda Zia, Bangladesh’s first female prime minister, passed away at Evercare Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Her death prompted nationwide mourning and an outpouring of tributes from political leaders and dignitaries across the globe.

Her funeral rites were held with full state honours on December 31, 2025, at Manik Mia Avenue, where thousands of mourners, senior officials, foreign guests, party leaders and members of the interim government gathered to attend her namaz-e-janaza.

Following the funeral prayers, Khaleda Zia was laid to rest beside her late husband, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in the capital.

The burial ceremony was marked by a large public turnout and military honours, including a ceremonial salute.
