Strikes on Tehran continue as US-Iran war enters 14th day

Air strikes targeting the Iranian capital continued on Thursday as the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran entered its 14th day, further escalating tensions across the region.

Explosions were reported across Tehran as air raids struck several locations in and around the capital. Additional attacks were also reported in other Iranian cities, including Kashan, Isfahan, Qom and Arak, reports Al Jazeera.

In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched a new round of retaliatory operations against Israel. In a statement, the group said the latest operation marked the “44th wave” of strikes aimed at Israeli targets.

The intensifying conflict has resulted in heavy casualties and widespread destruction. Reports indicate that more than 1,400 people have been killed since the fighting began, with a significant number of strikes hitting residential neighbourhoods.

Drone activity has also been reported in Tehran, with several attacks allegedly targeting security facilities and positions associated with the Basij militia. Residents said air defence systems were activated across the city as drones were heard flying overhead.

Meanwhile, fires at oil depots struck during the attacks have caused thick smoke and worsening air pollution in the capital. The deteriorating security situation has prompted a large number of residents to flee Tehran in search of safer areas.

The situation remains highly volatile as both sides continue military operations, raising fears of further escalation and humanitarian consequences in the region.
