One killed, three injured in clash over rivalry in Sylhet

A man was killed and three others injured in a violent clash between two groups over longstanding enmity and territorial dominance at Lengura of Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet on Monday aftl0paernoon, police and locals said.

The deceased was identified as Kamrul Islam, 35, son of Kutub Ali of Lengura village in Lengura union.

According to local residents and police, tensions had been simmering for a long time between supporters of Kamrul Islam and former union parishad member Billal Hossain over local dominance and previous disputes.

During the initial phase of the clash, Kamrul Islam allegedly attacked Billal Hossain’s daughter, Rukshana Akter, with a sharp weapon, leaving her seriously injured in her left hand.

As the news spread, supporters of Billal Hossain reportedly retaliated and attacked Kamrul Islam with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured in the hands, legs, and neck.

Locals rescued him and took him first to a nearby hospital and later to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead while undergoing treatment.

The injured- Billal Uddin, Rukshana Akter, and Juned Ahmed are receiving treatment under police protection.

Officer-in-Charge Gowainghat Police Station Md Moniruzzaman said additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent further violence.

He added that no written complaint had been filed so far, and legal action would be taken after investigation once a p0 complaint is received.
