Brick Lane Mosque celebrates 50 years of faith and community.

Brick Lane Jamme Masjid marked a historic milestone last weekend as the community came together for two days of events celebrating the mosque’s Golden Jubilee — 50 years of faith, worship, service and community life from 1976 to 2026.

Held on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2026, the celebrations brought together worshippers, families, young people, elders, scholars, community leaders and friends of the mosque.

For many, the weekend was more than an anniversary celebration. It was an opportunity to reflect on the remarkable journey of an institution that has stood at the heart of the Bengali Muslim and wider community in Brick Lane for half a century.

The two-day programme was designed to engage different generations of the community. Saturday featured activities for children and young people, the Golden Jubilee Rally, as well as youth and women’s programmes, including a special Seerah quiz.

Sunday’s programme brought together elders and members of the wider community, followed by the screening of a special documentary charting the history of Brick Lane Jamme Masjid and highlighting its people, achievements, challenges and development over the past 50 years.

The documentary and celebrations reminded everyone that the history of the Masjid is not the story of one individual or one generation. Rather, it is the collective story of thousands of people who have prayed, learned, served and supported the Masjid over the decades.

At the heart of the Golden Jubilee was deep gratitude for the founders and pioneers of Brick Lane Jamme Masjid. Fifty years ago, they showed vision, determination and sacrifice in establishing and developing a place where future generations could worship Allah, learn their faith and build a strong community.

Many of those early pioneers worked quietly and selflessly, often in challenging circumstances, without seeking recognition or reward. The Golden Jubilee provided an opportunity to honour their contribution and reflect on the foundations they laid for future generations.

The anniversary was also a moment not only to look back with gratitude, but to look forward with renewed purpose and commitment to the future of the mosque and the wider community.

A major highlight of the celebrations was the presence of distinguished international guest scholars Shaykh Sayyid Munis Khalifa Al Jilani and Shaykh Sayyid Fadi Zoubaa Ibn Ali Al Hassani.

Their participation in this historic occasion, together with their words, duas and spiritual guidance, added further significance to the Golden Jubilee celebrations. The weekend ultimately provided an opportunity for the community to celebrate five decades of Brick Lane Jamme Masjid while remembering the generations whose faith, service and dedication helped shape its history.
