Tarique Rahman acquitted from defamation case in Habiganj

A Habiganj court has acquitted BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case filed against him in the district.

Habiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Abdul Alim passed the order on Thursday.

Asaduzzaman Khan Tuhin, a former vice-president of the Habiganj district Chhatra League in 2015, filed the case following comments made by Tarique Rahman about Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in an interview with an English newspaper.

The complainant in the case has been absent from the court since 2018 and failed to submit the necessary documentation over a six-year period. For this reason, the judge dismissed the case under Section 204 (3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, leading to the acquittal of Tarique Rahman, a court sources said.
