Following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amid intense nationwide protests, hundreds of demonstrators stormed Nepal’s Parliament on Tuesday and set the main building on fire.

The escalation came a day after security forces opened fire on protesters attempting to breach parliament premises on Monday, killing at least 19 people.

The violence triggered widespread outrage, particularly among the youth and led to mass defiance of a government-imposed curfew.

Witnesses reported chaotic scenes as enraged citizens poured into the streets from early Tuesday morning, demanding accountability and systemic reform.

By afternoon, the protesters had broken through security barriers and entered the Parliament complex.

Confirming the incident, Ikram Giri, spokesperson for Parliament Secretariat, said, “Hundreds of people have entered the Parliament area and set the main building on fire.”
