Former US vice president Kamala Harris has suggested she may “possibly” run for president again, in remarks made during a British television interview previewed on Saturday.
Harris, who stepped in as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 after Joe Biden withdrew but ultimately lost to Donald Trump, told the BBC she has not yet decided on another White House bid.
“I’ve not decided yet what I will do in the future, beyond what I am doing right now,” said the 61-year-old, adding that she is “not done” with American politics.
The former vice president expressed optimism about women’s political leadership in the US, saying her young grandnieces would “see a female president in the Oval Office in their lifetime, for sure.”
“I have lived my entire career a life of service, and it’s in my bones, and there are many ways to serve,” Harris said in the interview, which is set to air in full on Sunday.
Her comments mark the clearest indication yet that she could seek the Democratic nomination in the 2028 presidential election.
The interview follows the release of Harris’s memoir last month, in which she described it as “recklessness” to allow Biden to run for a second term and accused members of his administration of failing to support her — and at times actively undermining her — during her tenure as vice president.
