
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has thanked Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus for announcing that the national referendum and parliamentary election will be held on the same day.
The party expressed its appreciation following a three-hour meeting of its Standing Committee at chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Thursday night.
After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that the committee, chaired virtually by acting party chairman Tarique Rahman, welcomed the reaffirmation that the parliamentary election will be held in February and the decision to hold a referendum on the same date.
He said the Standing Committee also reiterated its call to the government and Election Commission to hold a referendum seeking public approval of the July National Charter; signed through political consensus on 17 October, and to organise the parliamentary polls as soon as possible.
The virtual meeting was presided over by Tarique Rahman. Other participants included Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
