Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, visited her mother-in-law and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital on Friday before heading to her parental home in Dhanmondi.
She spent more than two and a half hours at the hospital and left around 2:40 pm.
Zubaida Rahman arrived in Dhaka at around 10:45 am on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from London and went straight to Evercare Hospital, reaching the facility in Bashundhara at 11:53 am. Security was tightened in and around the hospital ahead of her arrival.
She has travelled to Dhaka to accompany Khaleda Zia during her planned medical transfer to London. However, the plan has been delayed after a special air ambulance sent by the Amir of Qatar failed to arrive due to technical issues. BNP’s media cell confirmed the delay in a post on its verified Facebook page at 10 am, saying the aircraft may reach Dhaka on Saturday if conditions allow.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Khaleda Zia would travel on Sunday, 7 December, provided she is medically fit and the medical board gives final clearance.
Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for the past 13 days, drawing growing public concern over her critical condition. Doctors say the lung infection that caused severe complications has shown slight improvement, as have some cardiac issues, though several other health problems remain unchanged.
The former prime minister was admitted to the hospital on 23 November after suffering breathing difficulties. Tests confirmed a lung infection, and as her condition worsened, she was moved from the High Dependency Unit to the Critical Care Unit.
