Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has visited the grave of Abu Sayed, the first martyr of the July mass uprising.
He paid his respects at around 8:30am on Saturday and later met with Abu Sayed’s family.
Addressing the occasion, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “We do not have the strength to fully repay the debt we owe to Abu Sayed. Yet we must continue to strive to honour that debt. They have left us indebted and entrusted us with a responsibility—saying that they are gone, leaving us behind, and that we must fulfil their dreams and safeguard the nation.”
Paying tribute to Abu Sayed and all other martyrs, the Jamaat Ameer said their dream was of a society free from discrimination, where no form of injustice would be tolerated and no criminal or miscreant would be allowed to rule the country.
“They dreamt of a Bangladesh where fascism would not be tolerated, and of a safe and secure nation where every citizen could live without fear,” he said, adding, “We promise you that we will continue the struggle to realise the dreams of the martyrs.”
Addressing the youth, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, “We promise you that if we come to power, we will build the Bangladesh you aspire to. We will hand over the leadership of this society to you, while standing behind you with strength, courage and support.”
He further urged young people to remain vigilant, saying they must once again fight as ‘July fighters’ to ensure that no one can take their votes lightly and to secure victory for the future.
