20 injured as football dispute sparks clash in Habiganj

At least 20 individuals were injured in a clash between two groups over a football dispute in Bamai village under Lakhai upazila in Habiganj district on Saturday afternoon.

According to local sources, the conflict dates back 10-12 days, when a disagreement arose between Zobayer and Rakib over a football game.

Initial efforts by local elders, including Bamai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Amzad Hossain Furuk, to resolve the issue were initially successful, with a meeting scheduled for Saturday to settle the matter.

However, both sides engaged in a violent confrontation, armed with traditional weapons, resulting at tleast 20 individuals to be injured at around 10:00 AM.

Among the seriously injured, Md Mosharraf Hossain was transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Confirming the incident, Lakhai Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Zahidul Haque said that the incident has now been brought under control.
