Jamaat Ameer pays tribute to language martyrs

Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, paid tribute to the Language Movement martyrs by laying flowers at the Central Shaheed Minar in the first hours of 21 February.

Newly elected Members of Parliament from the Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance were also present.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid homage to the martyrs. After laying flowers in his capacity as Prime Minister, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, accompanied by members of the Cabinet, placed wreaths at the altar. Advisers to the Prime Minister were also in attendance.

Following the Prime Minister’s tribute, the chiefs of the three services paid their respects at the Shaheed Minar: Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan.

Before them all, President Mohammed Shahabuddin was the first to lay flowers at the Central Shaheed Minar, paying tribute to the language martyrs.
