Odhikar’s Adilur, Elan jailed for 2 yrs

Two officials of rights body Odhikar were jailed for two years on Thursday in a case filed under the ICT Act for publishing a distorted report on Hefazat’s rally in Shapla Chattar in 2013.

The convicts are Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan and Director ASM Nasiruddin Elan.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Julfikar Hayat pronounced the judgement at about 2:45pm in presence of the duo.

In  2013, Odhikar published a report on its website that claimed 61 people were killed at Hefazat-e-Islam rally in Shapla Chattar.

DB police filed the case against the two Odhikar officials on charge of publishing the distorted report.
