MP Anar murder: 2 more accused arrested from Khagrachhari hills

Two fugitive accused of Jhenidah-4 constituency’s MP Anwarul Azim Anar have been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Faisal and Mostafiz were arrested by the DB after conducting raids at hills in Khagrachhari on Wednesday.

DB sources said that Faisal Ali Saji and Mostafizur Rahman Fakir returned to the country on May 19 last after killing Anwarul Azim Anar in Kolkata. Since then they have been absconding. On Wednesday, a team of DB conducted raids in Khagrachhari hills with helicopters and succeded to arrest them.

Later, the DB team brought both Faisal and Mostafiz to Dhaka by a helicopter.

The DB sources said Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered at Sanjeeva Garden’s flat in Kolkata on May 13. According to police investigating the murder, both Faisal and Mostafiz were directly involved in the murder. They went Kolkata on May 2 last before the murder. Following the arrest of Shimul Bhuiyan, his nephew Tanvir Bhuiyan and Shilasti Rahman on May 21 last, both Faisal and Mostafiz became absconded.

The DB said both Faisal and Mostafi had constantly been changing their position following the disclosure of Anwarul Azim Anar murder. Drives were carried out at different places to arrest them. Subsequently, it was learnt that they went into hiding in Khagrachhari hilly area. Then a number of teams of the DB joined the drives with helicopters to arrest them. DB’s additional commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid also went to Khagrachhari by a helicopter.
