Two Hizb ut-Tahrir men arrested in Turag

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday arrested two alleged active members of the banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Turag area of Dhaka.

They were arrested conducting raid at about 11:45pm on Thursday at Turag area. The arrested were identified as Jahangir Alam, 34, and Farhad Hossain, 26.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of the DMP, confirmed the matter.

He said they were arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Earlier in October, Hizbut-Tahrir’s media coordinator Imtiaz Selim was also arrested in that case from Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.

Earlier, on October 21, 2009, the government banned all kinds of activities of Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh “in the interests of public security.”
